THE GREAT AND POWERFUL
|
On day four of the Klepto King challenge, Sneaky Pete decides to get up at the ass-crack of dawn, for some indecipherable reason. Since I assume that most of the houses are full of sleeping or busy Sims (and I don't really fancy the idea of spending an entire day killing time at someone's house), I start scouring the town map for a fun place to spend the day. Spoiler: click to toggle Ooh, that'll do. To the library! Hopefully they won't charge you for a library card... Spoiler: click to toggle Turns out, unsurprisingly, there's absolutely no one to be seen at the library at 6 AM. Go figure. Pete decides to occupy his time by looting the small toy chest in the other room. ![]() ![]() Hey, no one's here to see, and he IS a kleptomaniac. He then grabs a book and makes himself comfortable. Unfortunately, he's getting rather hungry, and no one's shown up at the library yet. I start exploring the map again, looking for a house to visit. Pete hasn't explored this side of town before, so this should be interesting. I set my eye on a lovely beachfront property, and set Pete on his way. Inside the house, loud electronica is blasting from a small stereo. Sounds like someone here likes to party. Spoiler: click to toggle This is the Wan-Goddard household, home to engaged couple Pauline Wan and Hank Goddard. As Pete introduces himself to Pauline and comes inside, I notice Hank sitting on the couch inside, wearing his work uniform. Spoiler: click to toggle Uh-oh. Cautiously, Pete introduces himself to Hank, who turns out to be a traffic cop. Luckily for me, they seem to be getting along well enough, though I'm carefully ensuring Pete doesn't mention anything, erm, incriminating. After chatting for a while, Hank excuses himself and heads out the front door, presumably to work. Meanwhile, Pete's phone rings. He answers it-- ![]() Oh. My. GOD. I click the checkmark as fast as I can manage, and Pete books it to the lot where he and Fiona are supposed to meet-- Spoiler: click to toggle ...City Hall? Huh. Not the spot I would have picked for a first date, but alright. Spoiler: click to toggle Pete occupies himself by catching stag beetles on the lawn, while I start looking around for Fiona. She's nowhere to be seen, and she still hasn't shown up... Hmm. I have Pete give her a call. Spoiler: click to toggle Well, I never! A slightly insulted Pete walks over to the nearby park and grabs himself some lunch from an unattended picnic basket. A few minutes later, he gets a message from Fiona: Spoiler: click to toggle Hmph. At least she had the decency to give me an excuse. Still feeling a bit hurt, Pete attempts to forget his sorrows by chatting with another woman at the park. Her name is Susan Wainwright. I guess Pete has a thing for redheads. Spoiler: click to toggle Pete learns that she's a... carnivorous plant tender?! I wonder if she has some kind of secret lab filled with alien plants. She could be a great match for Pete. Imagine! The lovely couple, spending their days in kick-ass evil lair, guarded by vicious man-eating plants and furnished with Pete's ill-gotten gains-- Spoiler: click to toggle Oh. Turns out Susan is married to a man named Boyd, also a scientist. Perhaps I got a bit ahead of myself there. ...then again, Pete is evil, and what's more evil than breaking apart a perfectly healthy marriage? Hmm. Food for thought. For now, Pete is content to make Susan a good friend, and leave it at that. Susan wanders off. Pete and I hang out at the park for a little longer (we run into Xander and someone new, named Geoffery Landgraab), and then head back to the town map. We didn't do any robbing yesterday, and Pete's itching for some Klepto King action. Let's see where we can go tonight... Pete and I head off to a big ol' four-bedroom house on the other side of town, home to the Bunch family. Spoiler: click to toggle I remember meeting the teenaged daughter of the Bunch family, Lisa, on day one. Maybe she'll be here! When I ring the doorbell, the only one home is a young girl named Darlene. Spoiler: click to toggle Uh oh. This is starting to feel kind of Stranger Danger-y to me. Darlene, however, has no such qualms, and lets me in straight away. We spend some time gossiping in the foyer until her father, Jack, comes home and helps himself to a bowl of cereal. Spoiler: click to toggle That uniform looks disappointingly familiar. Bad luck, Pete. I introduce myself to Jack, grab myself a snack (mooched, of course), and head over to the kitchen table. By now, Lisa and her younger brother, Arlo, are here too. I sit myself down to finish my meal while Darlene and Lisa work on their homework. I spend a few hours chatting with the kids until their mom, Judy, comes home. As Pete introduces himself, I start scouting out the house. Something catches my eye... Spoiler: click to toggle A chess set. Could this be Pete's chance to redeem himself? I have Pete sit himself down on the couch and make himself comfortable. Spoiler: click to toggle This time, when he takes his pre-heist nap, almost the entire family stops what they were doing to stand over the couch and act disgruntled. They don't wake Pete up, though, and eventually they all head off to bed. Almost. Spoiler: click to toggle Lisa is still up, even though it's past 3 AM. This is not good. Pete can't steal anything while someone's in the room. Pete seems to know that the jig is up. Despite my best efforts to keep him on the couch, his AI kicks in and determinedly steers him outside of the house. Spoiler: click to toggle Well then. Maybe day five will go better. |

Fiona's no good for Pete. I knew it from the first time he met her. He can't be messin' around with no girl who's gonna leave him alone at government buildings! He's in too dangerous a profession for that! And now he's hanging with cops... man. Hard out there for a klepto. |

THE GREAT AND POWERFUL
|
With day five comes the promise of more burglary on the horizon, and Pete hops out of bed with a spring in his step! I've decided to revisit the Clavells, even though we've stolen three things from them already. One of Pete's current wishes is to make friends with Bessie, and I see no reason not to allow him the opportunity. Besides, that'll make it easier to mooch food and cash from her. Unfortunately, as Pete skips out the front door, I come to a disappointing realization--Pete hasn't paid the bills. If bills aren't paid and put back into the mailbox in time (no more than three days after they're delivered, if I'm remembering right), the Sim's house will get a visit from the Repo-man, whose job it is to take some of the Sim's property that's worth as much as the debt owed. In a playthrough like this, where the only thing signifying my progress is the objects in my house, getting a visit from the Repo-man would be extremely depressing. Spoiler: click to toggle But by the time Pete puts the bills back in the mailbox and raises the flag, the map tells me that Bessie's left the house. Before AfterDamn. Curse you, Repo-man! Well, there's no point in sitting around at home any longer. I sent Pete off down the street to a house I haven't visited before: the Sekemoto household. Maybe Pete can grab himself some breakfast and some shiny new trinkets to boot. Spoiler: click to toggle When he rings the doorbell, a young man named Leighton lets him in. Leighton lives here with his mom, Yumi, and his infant son, Sam. A single dad, huh? I almost feel bad taking things from him. Regardless, as soon as we get inside, I bum a breakfast burrito off of him. Spoiler: click to toggle I'm distracted by little Sam as he comes toddling into the room by himself, and I almost let Pete's AI direct him to clean up his dish. We can't have that! I click to cancel the action, and Pete sets the plate down in the middle of the walkway. Spoiler: click to toggle Much better. After Pete visits the bathroom, I notice that Leighton and Sam are nowhere to be seen. I zoom out, looking at the whole house. Spoiler: click to toggle They're gone. They've gone and left me in their house, alone. Well then! Time to have some fun. Spoiler: click to toggle Pete spends a couple of hours tinkering around on the Sekemoto's computer, making inflammatory forum posts and probably messing around with their system settings or something. Eventually Pete's AI starts trying to make him go home. I spot a notification in the corner of the screen. ![]() Oh. I bet that's why Pete took it upon himself to leave the Bunch's house before he took anything last night. Awkward. To placate the AI, I send Pete off home for a moment. While I'm there, I decide to try visiting the Alvis again. Even though I won't be able to take anything else from them, I kind of want to see how they're getting on without their precious dining chairs and loveseat. Spoiler: click to toggle VJ lets me in, and as soon as I get inside, he greets me with an insult. Rude. On a hunch, I click on an action I haven't yet used on anyone: "Mastermind Plot". It's got the "Evil" symbol next to it, so I figure it wouldn't go over well with many people. VJ, however... Spoiler: click to toggle Aha! A kindred spirit! Pete spends a couple more minutes in the house, saying hi to Iqbal and Miraj (who, since I last visited, has grown into a teenager. What a growth spurt!). They've got a visitor, a woman named Tamara Donner, who I haven't met before. Before I go, I take the liberty of grabbing Pete a salad from the meal that VJ prepared for the family. Spoiler: click to toggle I'm sure they won't mind. I'm curious to see what's happening at the Sekemoto household, so Pete and I head back. When we get there, little Sam is sitting on the front porch by himself. Spoiler: click to toggle Hmm. This doesn't seem like something a good parent would allow. While there are no witnesses, Pete takes the opportunity to "help himself" to a bit of candy that Sam was holding. Spoiler: click to toggle Truly, the most dastardly of crimes. As Pete munches on his new sugary treat, his phone starts ringing. ![]() Tamika Ferreira? I'll be honest, I have no idea who she is. Rejected! No, of course I didn't give her a nice excuse. Leighton lets me in after grabbing Sam off the porch. Looks like my dish from this morning is still sitting in the middle of the hallway, and it's starting to smell pretty nasty. No, of course I don't pick it up. Spoiler: click to toggle Leighton's mother, Yumi, is here too. I haven't met her yet, so I introduce myself. I learn that she's unmarried, like her son. Interesting. Pete goes off to the bathroom as Yumi puts Sam to bed, and then goes to bed herself. Once again, I find myself in the middle of a house with no one to stop me from doing what I do best. Spoiler: click to toggle Time to get to work! I've decided that I'm only going to take one thing from this house tonight, even though I could easily take more. Better to pace myself and keep the suspense up. I think Pete might like to have a computer, so I take him upstairs to the office and click "Swipe Something". Spoiler: click to toggle Spoiler: click to toggle Pete, I swear to god, if you-- Spoiler: click to toggle ...I'm starting to think this game is deliberately mocking me. Stay tuned for day six! |

CHAAAIRS. Also I love how the Sims happily let their toddler crawl around outside at night and welcome strange men into their homes while they sleep. CAN YOU STEAL THE TODDLER? You could raise him to be evil. |

Maybe you should tell him to steal the chairs. Maybe that'd help. |

THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

As far as I know, there is not a way to steal people, toddlers or otherwise... but maybe there's a mod for it. <_<
Knowing this game, that would just make me take about six chairs at once. Even if I only clicked "Swipe Something" one time. Watch, I swear it'll happen. |

Staplers, I'm not sure you could've got me hooked on this series any faster even if you'd dressed it up to look like money and dangled it from a fishing-line. Really enjoying this, in case my point above was too ambiguous - keep it up
